God Even Works in Mistakes

The Rent-To-Own industry was still strong and there was an opportunity to jump in and create software for the new IBM PC just released in support of this industry. Rick helped me start up The r:tracs Company and get the ball rolling. We began marketing the first versions of the program and quickly learned there was a great demand for the product. It was a very encouraging time and we enjoyed knowing God was in the middle of our struggle to grow a high technology company.

We were always looking for the most cost effective way to promote the business as the company funded its own growth. We got the idea to mail a promotional piece with a floppy disk inside that provided the software for use as a trial. We planned on mailing 1,000 pieces. We had postage enough for the 1st 500 and waited a week or so for the remaining 500 to be mailed. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you looked at, I forgot to insert the floppy disk in the last 500. The mail-out said FREE trial software was enclosed, but it was mistakenly not included.

Amazing how God works or at least I hope it was God, because the Word says, 'All things work to the good for those that love the Lord' (archie paraphrase). We had incredible telephone response. Many people called wanting the demo software from the 2nd mailing. Few people called in the 1st mailing. When we received a call, it gave us a chance to introduce ourselves and encourage them use our new product. This was the beginning of our race for the gold and go public.

It is amazing how God works even in our incompetency and mistakes.
